Weird House

Can someone explain to me what's so awesome about this A-frame that they're lifting it up and building underneath? Sounds crazy to me! 
(Sorry about the bad lighting. We found it on an evening walk.)

    Basically, easier to get a permit for a remodel then it is for a new house.

    There was a restaurant in Sebastopol that kept one wall, and the foundation to create a whole new store on top of it.
